How photo contest votes spread
Most votes in a photo contest do not come from the organizer. They come from voters who pass the link on. These are the numbers from every PicJury contest with at least 50 votes between October 16 and November 6, 2026.
Key numbers
- 64% of votes came through links that voters passed on to others, not through the organizer's own link (5%)
- 43% of votes came through WhatsApp, more than any other app
- 83% of votes arrived in the first 24 hours, and 97% in the first three days
- 76% of people who opened a PicJury poll from a WhatsApp link a voter sent them went on to vote, against 45% from a phone share sheet and 27% from Facebook
Case study: a youth soccer league costume contest
A youth soccer league ran a Halloween costume contest between three teams on PicJury in November 2026. It drew 7,612 unique votes in three days, without ads.
- About 70% of the votes came through links that voters sent on (WhatsApp around 3,700, copied links around 1,100).
- One link posted in the league-wide group chat brought 2,658 votes, spread across all three teams.
- Links posted only in single-team chats brought 979, 344 and 115 votes, each mostly for its own team.
- Voting peaked twice a day, around lunch and in the evening, local time.
What this means if you run a contest
- Post the link in the biggest shared chat first (the whole league, school or office), not only in one team's chat.
- Ask each team to send the link to its own families and friends: every voter who passes it on brings more votes than the organizer's post.
- Plan for a short contest. Almost every vote arrives within three days, so a three-day window keeps the energy without a long tail.
- WhatsApp works best where it is the main messenger: people open a link from someone they know and vote.
How we measured
- Sample: every PicJury contest (a poll of 3 to 6 photos) with at least 50 votes, created between October 16 and November 6, 2026: 8 contests, 8,583 votes. One contest accounts for most of the votes, so the shares lean toward it.
- Where a vote came from is the share link it arrived through, recorded with the vote. Votes with no recorded link (typed or forwarded without one) count as neither voter nor organizer links.
- Vote rates by app come from Google Analytics for all polls from October 23 to November 5, 2026, and include only visitors who allowed analytics.
- One vote per person per contest, counted by device and network; a repeat vote from the same person is not added.

Questions
How do you get more votes in a photo contest?
Post the voting link in the largest shared chat that includes every side, then ask each team or entrant to send it to their own families and friends. In PicJury contests, 64% of votes came through links that voters passed on, against 5% through the organizer's own link.
How long should a photo contest voting window be?
Three days is enough for most group contests. In PicJury data, 83% of votes arrived in the first 24 hours and 97% within three days.
Which app brings the most photo contest votes?
WhatsApp, where it is the main messenger. It carried 43% of contest votes in PicJury data, and 76% of people who opened a contest from a WhatsApp link voted.
Is there a free photo contest site without sign-up?
Yes. PicJury is free with no ads: the organizer uploads 2 to 6 photos and shares one link, and voters tap a photo without an account or app.
